Learn how AgentCue works and troubleshoot common issues.

Overview

What is AgentCue?

AgentCue is a macOS menu bar app for developers who work with AI coding agents. On MacBooks with a notch, it also lives in the notch area for an even more seamless experience. It gives you a single place to monitor, control, and interact with your agent sessions without leaving your workflow.

How It Works

  1. Install AgentCue and launch it from your Applications folder.
  2. The app lives in your menu bar (or notch on supported MacBooks). Click the icon to open the dashboard.
  3. Start an AI agent session in your terminal as usual. AgentCue detects running agents automatically.
  4. Monitor, approve, chat with, and launch agents, all from the menu bar.

Key Features

  • All agents in your menu bar. See every running agent at a glance. Switch between sessions with a single click.
  • One-click permission approvals. Approve permission prompts from the notification or dashboard, without switching to the terminal.
  • Chat mode & dictation. Read the full conversation, respond via text, and review every tool the agent called.
  • Live status & context usage. See what each agent is doing, how long it's been running, and how much context it has left.
  • Launch agents from menu bar. Start a new Claude Code session in any project directly from the app.
  • Notifications & sound alerts. Get notified the moment an agent finishes, needs permission, or asks a question. Customize sounds per event.
  • Diffs in conversation. See lines added and removed by your agent, right inside the conversation view.
  • Session search. Search through all your past sessions with fast full-text search powered by SQLite and BM-25 ranking.
  • Conversation view & tool log. Browse the full agent transcript with rendered Markdown, collapsible messages, and a compact tool timeline.

Terminal Compatibility

The Terminal Situation

AgentCue has been built and battle-tested on iTerm2. It's our ride-or-die terminal. Everything you see on this site (pause, resume, session detection) is verified, polished, and working beautifully on iTerm2.

Other terminals? Uncharted waters. We haven't tested them yet, so things might work, things might get weird, or things might just stare at you blankly. We're not saying it'll break, we're just saying we haven't made any promises.

Compatibility at a Glance

TerminalStatus
iTerm2Fully supported. The golden child.
Everything elseUntested. Proceed with adventurous spirit.

What This Means for You

  • Using iTerm2? You're golden. Enjoy the full AgentCue experience.
  • Using something else? Give it a shot! It might work great. If something feels off, that's probably why. We'd love to hear about your experience, it helps us prioritize what to support next.
  • Terminal.app, Warp, Kitty, WezTerm, Alacritty, Hyper... You're all on our radar. Stay tuned.

We're actively working on expanding terminal support. The goal is for AgentCue to play nice with whatever terminal you throw at it, but we're just not there yet.
